Player Talent Scout: Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson

Posted on 29th October 2020

Scandinavian football has become something of a gold mine in recent years, producing some of the hottest prospects in world football, with the likes of Martin Odegaard, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak and Dejan Kulusevski all shining in Europe’s biggest leagues. Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson could be the next Scandinavian superstar, with the 17 year-old earning rave reviews this season.

The son of former Icelandic international Joey Guðjónsson, Johannesson was born in Sutton Coldfield when his father was on loan to Aston Villa. After starting his career in Iceland with ÍA, he made the move to Swedish club IFK Norrköping last year and has already established himself as a key player.

An attacking midfielder with a wand of a left foot, Johanesson uses his creativity, technical prowess and intelligence to dictate games in a way that belies his tender years. Usually used from the right-wing this season, Johannesson has also appeared at left-back, left-wing and in central midfield, which is probably going to be his long term best position.

Already an Icelandic Under-21 international, Johannesson has 4 goals and 10 assists in 26 appearances for Norrköping this season, who sit second in Allsvenskan. His form has already attracted the attention of Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool, and Norrköping seem resigned to losing their talent in the near future.
