Work In Progress: Community Points
January 13th, 2009 by SM Dev (Ste)
The ‘My Profile’ page is undergoing a complete revamp to make it a corner piece of the game, and also to coincide with the ‘Club Wizard‘ and ‘Community Points’ features which are currently being worked on.
The new ‘Community Points’ feature will replace the existing ‘SM Reputation’, and the new system will reflect what a member has done for the SM community rather than just displaying the number of weeks they have been playing.
Please note that the current ‘SM Reputation’ will still be in place, however, it will be changed to say ‘playing for x weeks’.
We have come up with a points based system for how managers will be awarded ‘Community Points’ as follows:
- 100 pts for becoming a Gold Member;
- 50 pts for inviting friends;
- 50 pts for creating a game world;
- 50 pts for taking over a pre-owned game world;
- 300 pts for being a SM Supervisor (overseeing the chat room & forum);
- 200 pts for being a SM Moderator (helping in the chat room & forum);
- 300 pts for being a Community Admin (helping with support tickets);
- 50-200 pts for translating (dependent on how much);
- 25 pts for reporting a suspect cheat via support and it being a genuine report;
- 25 pts for managing a smaller club for 50 games.
We will also allocate managers ‘Community Points’ for help they have already done for the SM community in the past as well. For example if you are already a Gold Member and have helped to translate the site into Dutch you would have 300 ‘Community Points’ allocated to your profile.
Please note that managers could have ‘Community Points’ removed from their account for the following reasons:
- -50 pts for having multiple accounts within the same game world;
- -50 pts for cheating within the transfer market;
- -50 pts for match fixing;
- -25 pts for writing abusive/inappropriate newspaper articles;
- -25 pts for sending abusive/inappropriate private messages.
The ‘My Profile’ page which is under development will display your ‘Community Points’, and it will also state how you have gained or lost them.
We are aiming to create a system whereby the more you do for the SM community the more rewards you will get back, these rewards could be in many forms such as extra club slots, shop discounts (or even free products) and even possibly entry into special game worlds.
Therefore to summarise if you help the SM community you will gain ‘Community Points’, and if you damage the SM community you will lose ‘Community Points’.
This new feature is currently under development and it will be ready in the coming weeks, and we hope that it’s introduction will rewards those members who are helping the SM community in one form or another.
Please Note: The above information that I have posted is subject to change whilst this new improvement/feature is being developed, and you are all more than welcome to suggest feasible ideas of how points should be earned.

if you already are a gold member and have already made your game worlds before this rule is made, do you still get the points?

How do you become a SM supervisor/moderator. I think there should be a league and the winner at the end of the year wins a prize (e.g extra clubs slots,free game world etc.)

^^^ by the way, if you know how to become a SM moderator/supervisor please send me a private message. My SM name is James O’Donnell and my picture is ronaldo and messi and kaka.

I like the idea, but I use the current rep to work out how long Ive been on (4 weeks and its my 2 year anniversary!) So could it be kept somewhere, maybe used to tell you how long Ive been a member since.

To be an SM supervisor/moderator you have to be very active on the forum or chatroom for about a year in order to get a name for your self and be noticed by some1 senior.
In other words, if you dont know what they are u dont hv a chance m8…

To be a mod/super you just be a good member of the community and you then get asked to do it. Being an employee of SM is something else entirely.
So…main factors that will get the average person people points is spending money? How does forking out for a GM, or a setup, make them a good member of the community?
This seems more like a way of SM grading who is valuable to THEM rather than a way of actually judging who is valuable to the community.
As a ‘Supervisor’ of several years I find it amusing that on a points system I can be surpassed by any spoiled kid who has duped his folks into buying them a GM and a few more setups.
Fundamentally this idea is a good one as the manager points/best managers list/reputation has needed overhauling for some time but people should not be able to pay their way to being a high rated member of the community if anyone is to take it seriously.

i think rep should be based on how many games you have won and lost and how loyal you are to teams and how many cups you have won and so on.
12. Daniele | January 13th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
What you gain by having many communities points?
13. Daniele | January 13th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
X Andrews: you are totally right!! I think that the point here is to have people working for SM for free … inviting friends, becoming supervisor or moderator, translating … it is much better to pay with communities points than with real money!

Define ’smaller’ teams?
18. Stu B | January 14th, 2009 at 12:34 am
It seems a good thing to me to highlight those that contribute towards SM and its community in a positive way. Those that dont feel they want to contribute or help out in a free game dont exactly lose anything either. And those that do are rewarded for it.

So practically we have to pay to have high reputation?
Is this supposed to make the game better? I don’t think so to be honest. With the current reputation system you can define an experienced manager, but with this new funny feature the reputation will only mean how much money you paid to SM.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this game, but I just don’t like this idea.
20. Cняiѕ Cαмiℓℓєяi (Cняiѕ_16) | January 14th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
I think you should leave the current SM reputation the way it is and make this feature, but not replacing the SM rep.
21. fabrizio | January 14th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Good idea.
But you MUST add the average manager points to this, to let everyone see how good are you as a manager.
The average points to all teams you manage.

dont like it
23. alex bardsley | January 14th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
i agrre with tebthered . lets say a normal member (guy A) has been on the sight for 2 or so years and has a madrid milan and aston villa . he/she alway answers to messages and is very active then some person ( guy B) comes on the site and buys gold members ship straight away and a coulple of setups and never answers messages and only comes on once of twice a week. who is the better member of the community? A or B
24. Philippe Nguyen | January 15th, 2009 at 1:35 am
23. Alex Bardsley - The solution is to give points for PM’s as well. I hope to see SM give community points to managers who send messages that aren’t reported as inappropriate/abusive.
25. Jad | January 15th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
When I first read this a few days ago I thought something similar to Steve (tebthereb), that it isn’t what you do on SM which determines your rep, based on the above but how valuable you are to them.
I am a moderator on the forums so already I qualify to get 200 points automatically. It would be hypocritical of me to disagree with it but points for becoming a GM or even just adding friends is silly because it is so easy to abuse the system that before long everyone will be friends with everyone and most will have an obscene number of points. It’s true that people can lose points but I can just add another friend to my account to wipe out the defecit.
So all in all a good idea IF it reflects your loyalty not the majority of what has been listed above.
26. Duarte Gomes | January 20th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
irrelevant improvement. sorry
27. John Evans | January 28th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Good idea but I still think loyalty in terms of playing time should also be rewarded (being an active membere as well as playing for a long time), and also making sensible suggestions to improving the game.
28. Freddie | March 3rd, 2009 at 5:53 pm
This could be easily abused and i think points for winning the league winning a cup so on would be a better idea cos then it shows how good a manager you are rather than length of time played
29. united4life | August 2nd, 2009 at 9:24 am
i like the idea but u could also make this something 2 do with the reputation level example get 100 community points and ave an increase in rep.
