Boubakary Soumaré – Yaya Touré’s long term replacement?

Posted on 09th February 2018

Boubakary Soumaré was strongly linked with a move to Manchester City in January, as the Champions elect step up their search for a long-term replacement for Yaya Touré.

Soumaré was developed in Paris Saint-Germain’s youth system but in the summer turned down a new contract with the Parisians as well as an offer from Juventus to join Lille.

Soumaré is a box-to-box midfielder, and his style of play which combines powerful running and athleticism with good technique and vision has already earned him comparisons with both Touré and Paul Pogba.

The French Under-19 international has broken into the Lille side this season as Les Drogues find themselves in a relegation battle in Ligue 1. He has performed admirably in what is a difficult situation for a youngster, showing that he has a strong mentality.

Soumaré will be hoping to continue to gain experience in the Lille midfield for the rest of the season, and if he continues his rapid development he could end up replacing Touré in City’s midfield and form a  alongside Pogba for France.
