Ideas & Suggested Improvements: Starting balances within Custom Setups
May 10th, 2008 by SM Dev (Ste)
We have received several suggestions over the past few weeks regarding starting balances within Custom Setups.
At this moment in time each club within the game is allocated a transfer budget once a new setup is created. However, Custom Setups owners are asking if there is a possibility they could choose the starting balances of each club within their Custom Setup?
This idea if feasible and it is something we will consider and look into in more detail at a future date.

2. timmy | May 10th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
so its der league dey can do wat dey want set up owners like myself cant do hardley anythin wif r leagues now sm practically reviews it so we shud b able 2 do dis
3. whitey | May 10th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
bad idea, puts all others at disadvantage apart from the set up owner. dont know what plum suggested this
4. michael | May 10th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
i think it is a good idea 2 set the balences but on the other hand u can make ur own team have 1biliion pounds and and the other teams have 1 thousand pounds and that wouldn’t be fair
5. gAv GaV | May 10th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
it shud be dun becoz its their league if you dont like it get it out coz we goldeez pay gud money 2 get our own league and i dont want it 2 be like a normal setup. the owners are gettin less power day by day for their own setup.

No Way So Obviously The Setup Owner’s Gna Giv Evryelse Less Money And Himself./.Herself Loadzz
What A Dumb iiDEA
7. jared | May 11th, 2008 at 3:16 am
very simple
every team in the league starts with the same bank balance
8. Vashil | May 11th, 2008 at 9:18 am
very very bad idea… everyone should start with the same amt or varies between 15m among big teams to smaller ones!!
9. Paul McCann | May 11th, 2008 at 9:50 am
I agree when u create ur own setup u can only buy 1 good playa nd den u av no money left dat is a good idea
10. Adam | May 11th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
It should vary depending on the team, surely? How can you say you want the game realistic, and then have teams like Chelsea starting with the same funds as someone like Luton? Doesn’t make any sense.
11. Argie | May 11th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
i think that the owner of the setup should be able to choose how much each is given as a starting balance but all the teams in the same division get the same and the others in the other get a different amount
12. Ireo | May 11th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
but then no-one will take over the smaller clubs and the setups wont fill up… the big team will always win
13. ash | May 11th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
i thinks it fine as it is

i think this would be a good idea im a gold member and payed to run my own setups but day by day you have less control over your custom setups so i think you should be able to do this but maybe it would be good idea if the starting balance you set applied to every club in league so every1 has a fair start even the lower divison clubs have a chance
i think us with gold membership or our own custom setups should have a bit more say over our leagues
15. rob | May 11th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
should also let us choose the stadium size!
16. Harry Hutt | May 11th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
yeah but thats unfair i only made a custom setup because i thought you could do that they should let us who already have a setup give extra money out because it just like bait for new gold members
17. ramone | May 12th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
I think it is agood idea because starting balences are too low.
Tthe setup owner should pick how much he gets and everybody else gets the same
18. Tom | May 12th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
I’ts a good idea becaus then the setup manager would be able to control how much money is given to each club depending weather he wants tram to buy or not have enough money to buy people.
19. rapheal | May 13th, 2008 at 12:03 am
i think matches played should be shown instead of being written pls this game has really gone far and so continue to improve.
20. Andrew | May 13th, 2008 at 11:48 am
i think this is a great idea because i am a gold member and i payed good money for it and we don’t get to do much in our setups anymore so this will give us gold members more to do and make setups more exciting !
21. michael | May 15th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
its thier on setup at the end of the day
dey decide
and if u dnt like the balances u can join another setup
innnnnnnnnnnnnnit

I think this is a great idea … i would love to create a setup and take control of a small club , however a small club i.e Darlington … there starting balances are just not helpful and it certianly puts you off in your desicion to take control . However i also believe there is only a maximum starting balance allowed … for example you should only be able to ajust the starting balance to a maximum of £60 million … and in that way this could help stop the cheating and give small clubs a real opportunity to challange the big clubs in the future …. averall i urge SoccerManager to go ahead with this idea

1) If you are a gold member person, its your own foult for buying the thing so dont moan about your priviligdged… thats a different matter.
2) That idea is completely rubbish. As soon as 1 bias individual controls the money it will all go wrong.
This is what should happen…
Season 1 (what ever you call it) the final league table should determin the amount of money you are allocated. e.g if you come 1st you should have 1million more say than the 2nd person, then the 2nd team should have 1 million more than the 3rd place team etc. This IS fair as each manager started off EQUALLY to one another at the START. Then you will then be awarded on your managering skills as to how well you finished. (Also cup and shield winners should win prize money too(not sure if they already do))
Okay so you could argue that if you are to join a league that is already established who have played 2 or 3 seasons then you are disadvantaged… but its your choice to join the league and if you do feel it unfair you should join a new league.
Plus its not all about the money, i’ve beaten a lot of the top teams in my league, purely on managering skills tactics and analyysing your opositions weaknesses and using them to your advantage. Money isn’t everything.
AS SOON AS YOU LET ONE BIAS PERSON CHOOSE THE STARTING AMOUNTS OF MONEY IT BECOMES UNFAIR AND YES THEY ARE BIAS AS THEY WOULD HAVE A TEAM IN THE LEAGUE THEMSELVES. IF GOLD MEMBERS ARE MOANING ABOUT THERE PETTY PRIVILIDGES THEY CAN THINK OF ANOTHER WAY TO GAIN CONTROL AS THIS IDEA PURELY SUCKS
=]
Thanks X

leave as is !! big clubs will ALWAYS have advantage otherwise.if big clubs want 2 fritter their money away so be it. a small club gets one chance to buy big im all 4 that
25. matt | May 20th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
absolutely awful idea every1 will hav loads of money and within 2seconds all the player 90+will be gone, no problem with wages so people would see clubs with thousands of players and still with loaddddddddsssssssssssss of money left
26. Mark | May 23rd, 2008 at 12:39 pm
I think this is a very bad idea, the game is all about skill and testing poeple as manager’s, not having thousands of pounds to build a good team!
Work with what you have got people, if you can’t do it with what resources there are at the current clubs, then don’t bother playing the game.
27. tausef | May 24th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
No!
It will give the owner unfair authority.
However you could provide the setup managers with a tool to increase/decrease the percentage of transfer fees and this percentage should be the same for all clubs in the setup.
28. Jim | May 25th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
I luv the idea. Trust me wicked idea i think it should go through definitely. If it goes through then i will definitely make a custom setup. Then i can cheat
29. Tom Smith | May 25th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I agree with JIM. (LUV THE IDEA)
30. Dr David Brown | May 25th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
i totally agree with jim & tom and other people who want the idea to go through. (SO WE CAN ALL CHEAT, EVEN WHEN I AM AT WORK WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE)

I think it should go through but you control the starting budget for each league not individual club eg.
League 1 gets 80m per club
2 gets 50m per club and
3 gets 20m per club

i think its a gay idea coz then u could giv yourself 5bil or something stupid like that

I can understand peoples arguements against the idea. I to believe that someone could be biased and give everyone small transfer balances and just have there club with the big transfer balance
However I would like to list just three simple rules that could prevent this :
1.) You can only ajust starting balances between the figure 20-60 million . This can help stop setup owners having complete control over the figures ,
2.) If you ajust the starting balances in the setup, each managed team can only do 2 transfers each season (only between the clubs that managed) . this can also prevent cheating so people wont get even more money than they are already allowed
3.) The chairman can take money out of the transfer budget and put it away for safe keeping. Then if you start to run out of money to invest in players, the chairman will allocate you more money that he has previouslly taken from you.
I think these 3 simple rules can be very effective at stopping biased setup owners , and stop people cheating there way into the game.

I think this idea needs to be shot down immediately. What’s the point of overriding the SM starting balances when they are very fairly done.

hi,
leave it as it is, it seems to work quite well ,the game will end up like championship manager 3 — too many options within the game which can be come confusing, do we want to bring in training stints to get unfit players fit again??, do we want to hold press conferences?? within any game someone will strive to be the best usually by unfair means !! so leave as is thus lessening the chances of unfair play ,thanks to all the guys who devote their time to run these setups your doing a great job !!
