Ideas & Suggested Improvements: Sponsorship Deals
August 17th, 2009 by SM Dev (Ste)
We welcome all suggestions and ideas so please keep them coming and the most interesting will be posted within SM News, just like we have done with Jamies’s idea:
A section within your club’s Finances called Sponsorship where you would see companies like Adidas, Puma, Nike, O2, McDonalds etc. The information could be displayed as follows:
Nike:-
Sponsor Money - £5,000,000 over three seasons
Start of season bonus - £1,500,000
O2:-
Sponsor Money - £3,000,000 over two seasons
Start of season bonus - £1,000,000
You would have a big list of companies and a company could only sponsor two teams within the Game World. All teams could apply for the sponsor and the game randomly picks two teams who have applied from each company for the sponsor (e.g. equal opportunities for Manchester United and Hereford United to get the sponsor).
There would be enough sponsorship companies for all managed teams, but obviously the bigger companys like Adidas etc will pay more sponsorship money.
Please Note: Do not contact SM Support in relation to this topic as your ticket will be closed as this article is in relation to suggestions members of our community have sent in.

nooooooooo need!
if its a pure lottery then whats the point! you might as well just randomly pick a team every week and give them 100k.
It’s of no interest to me, in fact sponsorship should be automatic, dealt with by the chairman, i don’t care who sponsors me, therefor can’t be bothered to apply to adidas or neto especially if its a lottery.
I WANT PLAYER SQUAD NUMBERS, TRANSFER REQUSTS FROM UNHAPPY PLAYERS…..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. LxDj | August 17th, 2009 at 11:24 am
YES. MOST IMPORTANT THING IS
TRANSFER REQUESTS FROM UNHAPPY PLAYERS
3. John Richards | August 17th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
i think its a brilliant idea, because it will make the game much more challenging. But instaed of it randomly being picked, you could be picked by the team with the best form.
4. ezydude | August 17th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
glinka is right its a bit of a useless idea if it is a lottery because there is no point it will benifit noone apart from say 8 managers out of thousands depending on how many sponsors.
5. Gaz | August 17th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
There is already a section for sponsorship in club finances, who actually cares where it comes from?
So many more game improvements need to be added before these type of ideas
6. Simon | August 17th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
After all the measures SM took to remove the excess money from the game - would they introduce something that gives everyone more again?? That wouldn’t make much sense…
7. lol | August 17th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Brilliant idea. Considering it is useless and it takes our minds away from what actually matters in the game, which is the GAME ENGINE, it’s brilliant. Don’t even about improving the ME, it would be soooo trivial. LOL.
8. Skillz | August 17th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
Ain’t worth it.
even if sm give the go-ahead for this, and managers don’t meet their expections, they would then either get sacked or given one more season to prove their worth.
sponsor deals wouldn’t be an ideal choice for sm. just for real life only.
9. joe birks | August 17th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
get the unhappy players wanting a move first, getting game transfer markets sorted is the most important thing and then move onto this minor details.
10. joe birks | August 17th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
also nike and adidas dont sponsor the clubs. they make the strips in which teams play for, adidas make chelsea’s strips, samsung sposnor chelsea so the idea of nike adidas and puma sponsoring clubs would be unrealistic. also if it is a lottery it makes it unrealistic, the best sponsors want the best clubs, that is why Port Vale arent sponsored by a major brand. Also the chairman has an influence, for example at Man city, they are sponsored by, on their shirts, etihad, because of the chairman influence. This idea seems simple but if it is to be realistic it needs to be looked into massively and to be honest i think the majority of the soccer manager faithful would like to see soccer manager admins time devoted to more important things, such as transfer requests
11. threaky | August 17th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
whats the point in this crap we already get sponsorship and if the biggest sponsers did not go for the biggest team it would be unrealistic as if nike sponsered man u they would pay a damn site more than sponsering darlington
FACT
plus if every team had to aply for a sponsor they would go for the biggest therfore would be unrealistic
12. Marron Hanson | August 17th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
It’s a good idea but it should not be done randomly. Like FIFA the bigger your club is, the more money you get. Therefore Manchester United will
have more of a chance of getting a big named sponser like (e.g. Nike, McDonalds, Adidas, Hyundai etc) than Hereford United.
13. robert porter | August 17th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
what about pre season, you could have a space inbetween seasons where you can pay to take your team on tour, have a friendly match or go on camp, this could help with improving player fitmess ect
14. alex | August 17th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
i need money but my ticket sales arnt giving me the money i need to buy players because i cannot use that money, you should be able to transfer from one account to another so i have money to spend on players i really need
15. Rodders | August 17th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
How hard is it to create another section in either the ’squad’ or ‘tactics’ part of your club which designates players squad numbers??
I’m fed up with the likes of Ronaldo ending up with random shirt numbers. It isn’t realistic. As others have said, this isn’t a bad idea, but at the same time should be put to the back of the list. PLEASE just add shirt numbers first!! This is something that is one of the basic ideas in football but at the same time adds a sense of authenticity. So SM, get your priorities right.
16. Lukey | August 17th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Great idea would like to see this in play
17. Beano | August 17th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Aint a bad idea at all , this would benefit division 4 challenges and bring extra revenue into clubs.
Brilliant Idea
18. alex | August 17th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
and stop making more game worlds, you have enough and most of them are empty with no challenges anymore, just stop and fill up these existing game worlds
19. ryan mckenna | August 17th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
gr8 idea jst like real football clubs gettin sponsors!!!!!!!!
it would benefit lower clubs wiv mor ca$h
20. luke | August 17th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
its only a good idea for lower clubs and sm is getting to unrealistic lowest clubs have the same money as bigger clubs which is just stupid and now with this lottery idea your just ruining the game y would nike choose hereford over manchester utd sit would never happen
SM STOP RUINING THE GAME
make it realistic not plain dump
21. Eza | August 18th, 2009 at 7:56 am
This is a very bad idea.. Focus on more important updates please!
22. Dargine | August 18th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
I like the idea.. but I think the best teams in the competition should get the best deals.. wit’ a contract of how good they need to perform at least.. if they don’t get to that goal at the end of the season, even if the contract is still for 2 more seasons, it should be cancelled and be put up for other teams.. the more the sponsor pays the higher the goals need ta be.
And I think.. since this are real companies and brands, they need to sponsor this game for gettin’ their name mentioned.. if not just make up fake companies, and let real companies sign up to sponsor this game. That’s free commercials for dem.
23. Qayum Naizi | August 18th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
Great Idea!!!
24. Johan Cruyff | August 18th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Its a nice idea but rather then everyone going for the same contracts sm should give each team say 3/4 sponsors and then u hav to choose one of them. Each one would have objectives like win league or cup etc and if u achieve those goals u get the money if not u would only get part of it
25. musty | August 18th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
It shouldn’t be random. E.g. If Rotherham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester Utd all apply for adidas, it should be given to the biggest club (Man Utd) as in real life. Apart from that, great!
26. gAv GaV | August 18th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
i agree with no.10 joe birks. i don’t think anyone would care, you could just add the teams sponsor in real life and say how much money the club gets from it. so not too complicated and allows people to focus on the actual game. and yh so many other things need to be done first. basically what everyones said.
27. Shels | August 19th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Don’t Want This, Waste of More Dev TIme..
Just Give The Money The Way It Is Now, Under Sponsership…
I Don’t Care Were It Comes From. Glad Too See People Agree With This Sentiment Aswell.
28. Aladetoyinbo Muyiwa | August 28th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Maybe?just gonna be another interesting part of the game, somethin more to deal with,d only thing is that SM should make this work in a way in which it would favour d big and small teams equally or maybe favour small teams better,b’cos d most important thing in this game{transfer market}is against those small teams,d money given my sponsors could make up for that
29. Aladetoyinbo Muyiwa | August 28th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
I give a 5-star credit to what Johan cyruff said,SM should pick on that
30. Chris M | September 1st, 2009 at 2:58 pm
I like this idea, SM could make money also to help them whilst giving us the options to gain more finance.
I like it…
31. RONARDO | September 24th, 2009 at 12:53 am
IT WOULD BE GREAT IF A MANAGER IS ABLE TO CHOOSE A SPONSOR THAT CAN OFFER HIS CLUB MORE. THIS WOULD MAKE THINGS EASIER FOR STRUGGLING CLUBS AND THEY COULD NEGOTIATE
32. Steven(Little World Founder) | May 16th, 2010 at 9:19 am
Yeah, if anyone has played fifa 10 manager zone where you choose a sponsor every sponsor is better in a different way so it should be set out one sponsor is better per game money, anotheris better at win bonus another better at cup bonus and so on!
33. David Marinez | July 27th, 2010 at 6:49 am
Company Sponsorship would be a great idea. It should have some requirements. At the beginning of every season, you should have some requirements on what needs to be done to keep sponsorship, if you fail those goals, then you lose the sponsorship.
