Ideas & Suggested Improvements: Player Exchange

January 21st, 2009 by SM Dev (Ste)

We welcome all suggestions and ideas so please keep them coming and the most interesting will be posted within SM News, just like we have done with Matt’s idea:

“It is to do with the problem within Gold Championship’s where money has no value, and people only want to do player exchanges. The separate transfer budget (within Gold Championship 17) has helped a little, and I think some of the ideas suggested within this article.

My idea is simple and possibly should be tried in a new Gold Championship.

The idea is to remove the player exchange option.

It is a bit extravagant, however, if you can not do a player exchange then it should make money more valuable. You could up the amount of transfers between clubs to two, so that you can do two transfers at a time, and you could up the amount of transfers between clubs in a season to five.

An example is the Torres transfer to Liverpool. When Torres came to Liverpool, Luis Garcia went the other way, but it wasn’t a player exchange as they were two separate deals. So if one collapsed, the other would still go through.

Thanks a lot for all the work you do, and I hope this idea will help the game in the future.”

This is an interesting idea and it is something which we could possibly introduce in a future Gold Championship alongside some of the ideas mentioned within ‘Key Game Improvements‘ on a trial basis.

Matt’s idea can also be debated on the SM Forum.

  • 2. Dai  |  January 21st, 2009 at 11:13 am

    Oh heck no…

I cant think of a Gold Setup without a player exchange option…

Not very realistic if it is not included at all is it?

Well, I don’t like it anyway!

  • 3. don  |  January 21st, 2009 at 11:33 am

    nope terrible idea

  • 4. rinoscar  |  January 21st, 2009 at 11:41 am

Good idea! How many times a good player is transfer listed and all they want is a player exchange and the other manager does not want anybody from your team.

My GC01 team balance is 150m, but it is more like 1$, cause I can’t use it to buy good players.

  • 5. shane  |  January 21st, 2009 at 12:21 pm

i think u should be able to swap 2 players for 1 with unmanaged teams also when a team as 18 players and none really that fit no help for that team . yes ok best players will be taken but surly its better to have a sqaud of players than only 18 with only 3 fit.

  • 6. Junior  |  January 21st, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    woahhhh stop right there!!!!!

  • 7. Snowy4liverpool  |  January 21st, 2009 at 12:53 pm

    How, that was my idea!!

  • 8. Snowy4liverpool  |  January 21st, 2009 at 12:57 pm

I think it should be at least tested, just to see how it would work. It doesn’t have to implemented in every setup, just GC. And hopefully it would make money more valuable. You would be able to swap players, but like i said, you would have to use cash, and also it would be more like 1 player for 1 player.

  • 9. tom hemy  |  January 21st, 2009 at 3:54 pm

    this is a great idea

  • 10. Robert  |  January 21st, 2009 at 4:14 pm

There is no point in this, the idea of SM is to make it as realistic as possible. Player exchanges happen in real life.

I do agree with the idea of allowing more than 3 transfers per season from 1 team. It would also be good if you do more than 1 deal at a time with a team.

Another great idea would be to increase the amount you can offer for a player. You will never get a Ronaldo or Kaka for £99m these days…up the limit SM go onnnnnn!!!!

  • 11. Snowy4liverpool  |  January 21st, 2009 at 4:20 pm

robert. Can you name me three deals that happened in th premier league that was player exchange this season plz?

  • 12. fernando acial  |  January 21st, 2009 at 4:27 pm

    hate it
I think it’s better if you delete the chairman value from the players’ profile. His sm value is A and his chairman value is B, but most of the time the bids go way higher than B.

    p.e.: IBRAHIMOVIC, Zlatan
    sm value (A): 10.7 M
    chairman value (B): 29.8 M

I bet 9 times out of 10 you won’t even get him for double the amount of B.

I think you should just keep the chairman value visible for external players, and make it invisible if the player is in the league. It will solve the problem, because people wouldn’t really know how much their players are worth to their club, and therefore sell them for less.

  • 13. Charlie bird  |  January 21st, 2009 at 4:40 pm

no,keep plyer exchange how it is.im sure in a few years it will go bak to how it was b4.maybe u could get some ppl together and enter a gold game world, and bid it into their heads.u would hav 2 be desparate tho.but to be honest, what if u get a team like watford?how r u supposed to get a championship winning side when every1 plyer exchanges?what u should do is create some separate gold championship game world which only has money only deals

  • 14. Wil  |  January 21st, 2009 at 4:53 pm

I believe you should keep the player exchange but with the exception that say at least 60% of the value of the deal is cash. This way the realism of player transfer is kept but money becomes valuable. To all those who don’t play in a GC the money in there is absolutely stupid if you want a 96 rated player, your looking at paying 99.9 million. this is completely unrealistic, I mean look at the out roar in the real life about Kaka possibly moving for £100 million, if that kind of idiocy enters SM then it would detract from the realism of the game, no player is worth that kind of money, In real life or in a virtual one like this.

  • 15. Louis (forum)  |  January 21st, 2009 at 5:04 pm

    GC’s won’t work without P/E.

    End of.

  • 16. Shane  |  January 21st, 2009 at 5:07 pm

Keep Player exchange, but have a limit. For example, In Gold championship you could do erm.. 3-5 deals which include player exchanges in a season. Obviously Soccermanager could expand on this idea and make it more appropiate. Do you agree?

  • 17. Snowy4liverpool  |  January 21st, 2009 at 5:07 pm

    y?

  • 18. Ben Palmer  |  January 21st, 2009 at 5:56 pm

This could be interesting, in Gold’s you virtually have no chance of getting players unless there is a p/e involved.

There are big teams that are unmanaged just because all their best players were bought quick sharp after they have quit.

Success in the Golds are generally built on what you began with, that isnt very realistic.

P/Es are virtually unheard of in real life, only in american sports like basketball where trades are done to meet wage cap etc. They are not realistic, for instance i got one in my private setups today which would never happen in real life:

Milan have made an offer to Barcelona for Lionel MESSI of £19,000,000 plus Andrea PIRLO and Tabaré VIUDEZ

PIRLO is a great player but on his way down so meeting transfer values with players is not realistic. I say try it out.

  • 19. James O'D  |  January 21st, 2009 at 5:58 pm

    WISE UP

  • 20. Mathew Williams  |  January 21st, 2009 at 6:11 pm

bad idea, smallclubs who are looking to perhaps buy 1 or 2 90+ players to help with promotion challenges etc. will find it dificult to bring in such new players.

  • 21. Snowy4liverpool  |  January 21st, 2009 at 6:15 pm

Matthew williams. how will they find it more difficult? It will be easier because they will be able to use the money they got from promotion to buy players, instead of not being able to buy 90 players because they have no one to trade.

  • 22. threaky  |  January 21st, 2009 at 6:24 pm

y not just allow to exchange 1 player instead of 2.Also cash would be of more value if say for instance you only got 75% of a players value for exchange rather than the different amounts chaiman offer so if i had a player valued by my manager at say 4 mill his exchange rate would only be 3 mill.Dont know what other people think of this idea but it would give cash more value would it not?????

  • 23. Junior  |  January 21st, 2009 at 6:24 pm

yes add this, but only for gold championships!!!!!!!

  • 24. Luke Sefton (Forum)  |  January 21st, 2009 at 6:25 pm

“There is no point in this, the idea of SM is to make it as realistic as possible. Player exchanges happen in real life.”

Actually, the idea of SM is to make it as realistic as possible whilst still being fun and simple to play.

I personally love this idea. And I think the amount of deals between a club at once, and the maximum amount per season should be upped.

  • 25. jdjd  |  January 21st, 2009 at 6:49 pm

It would be good for a trial but i think it would just slow things down a bit too much.

  • 26. doug haggarty  |  January 21st, 2009 at 7:20 pm

This should happen and it should happen in all Gold Championships, including those already in existence. Player exchanges are rife and prevent smaller clubs from building teams because the bigger clubs are on a kind of “swap merrygoround” and the small ones have no-one to swap. Exchanges are not the way that business is conducted in real football and they shouldn’t be the standard here. At present I am trying to sell Carlos Tevez from one of my teams. Ideally, I would like to agree a fee for £30 million or whatever and re-invest the money in one or two players. I can do the first bit, but then I would be left with the cash and nowhere to spend it. Player exchange is, in my opinion, the single biggest problem in the game.

  • 27. tebthereb  |  January 21st, 2009 at 7:52 pm

Why on earth SM would consider entertaining this I don’t understand. I can accept there is too much cash in GCs and people rely on trades too much. Is removing player trades the best solution? Of course not.

  • 28. alex bardsley  |  January 21st, 2009 at 7:57 pm

great i manage a hearts and i have a team of mid 80s but i cant get any 90+ cause they r all player exchange so its basically all the top clubs trading between themselves

  • 29. Nat  |  January 21st, 2009 at 8:55 pm

No, it may bcome 2 hard wiv poorer clubs

  • 30. Sir Jon  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 7:08 am

If you limit squad size…. the value of money goes sky high!!!
Player exchanges will become limited because you will only be able to if you have room on your squad.

no, really, it is that simple…. really

    Ok…. I say 45 players max.
I say 35 players on the main squad max and 10 to 15 max on youth.

  • 31. Paul Maslin  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 9:51 am

This is an awful idea. Absolutely ridiculas!!!!!!!No one will sell ANY of there players then, Every half big team in the GC’s 1 - 10 all have 150 million or more!!!!!!! Poor idea.

If u are that insane enough to introduce this, please increase the amount of deals in between two clubs.

    PLEASE DO NOT STOP EXCHANGES

  • 32. faris,Malaysia  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 10:56 am

    It won’t work..Believe me..

  • 33. Joseph Mayhew  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 12:58 pm

Personally if I was a big team in a GC and I could only sell players for cash, I just wouldn’t sell any players 88+ unless I had another deal to bring in a replacement going which practically amounts to the same thing as part exchange, making the whole exercise entirely pointless. Its not realistic having p/e deals all the time but I don’t see anyone clamouring for man city’s budget to be a couple hundred million at the start of every game world (entirely realistic). SM has to balance playability and realism and p/e deals are a part of that, just like the amount of cash each team gets

  • 34. SoP  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Great idea and about time it was heard in the open market and not just on the forum.

Player exchange transfers are just getting silly now with people asking for 2 89 rated players for a suspect 90 rated player

4 players for a 95 rated player ect ect

Its beyound ridiculas now and I’m finding I’m doing less and less transfers because of the idiotic exchange requests from other managers

  • 35. Marron H  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 6:25 pm

i hope this idea stays in the Gold Champions only!!

  • 36. Danny C  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 7:40 pm

    Gold Championships only, please.

  • 37. Harry  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 8:58 pm

if this idea happened i would stop playing s.m.

  • 38. Adzs  |  January 22nd, 2009 at 9:18 pm

No way will this work…..we need player exchanges…its that simple

  • 39. Dave  |  January 23rd, 2009 at 2:41 am

The key element to giving money more value is allowing the managers to be able to buy more things then just players with their cash, and make the cash management tougher.
Right now, any team with a stadium over 35,000 and a decent squad can afford a solid team, and any team with a stadium over 50,000 can afford a team with as many 90+ players they can get their hands on.

I say make money scarcer by making it tougher to run your squad in the black, but then add stadium improvements and other things you can purchase with cash that will help your fiscal situation.

  • 40. Alex  |  January 23rd, 2009 at 11:53 am

I think this is a fantastic idea! .. I also strongly agree with the comment left by “Dave” on the 23rd of Jan at 2:41am.

I would far rather play SM’s GCs if that was the case, but a deeper management as in the stadium management would make the game 100 times better, it would make you think!

Also i feel something is needed to prevent an unmanaged club from raided by everyone. All their best players go, and it leaves what once may of been a brilliant club, to absolutely nothing with a huge budget in which you cant buy anyone with!!

ABSOLUTELY YES TO THE NEW GC IDEA!

  • 41. Graham Randall  |  January 23rd, 2009 at 2:14 pm

    GREAT IDEA!!

i have river plate, real zaragoza & tottenham, and struggle to buy players, and constantly get harassed for p/e.
with regards to the comment from Robert | January 21st, 2009 at 4:14 pm, how can that b realistic????????? it aint!!!!!! u tell me when every transfer in real life, had to b done via p/e??????

SM get rid of p/e and get the gold cups enjoyable like the game worlds on offer!!

  • 42. Marcus Y  |  January 23rd, 2009 at 4:41 pm

If this idea does go through, I think it should be taken out of all setups, because Gold Championships should be superior to the normal ones… So I think that this ‘improvement’ shouldn’t go through.

  • 43. Snowy4liverpool  |  January 23rd, 2009 at 8:54 pm

wat. This idea is for Gold Champainships only.

  • 44. scott  |  January 23rd, 2009 at 9:08 pm

making money more valuable doesnt make sense to me… $1 is worth $2 ? im confused
but i agree that you should be able to buy things other than players, even if its just little things to help you out like stadium size or something to keep the morale up

  • 45. Lewis Monaghan  |  January 23rd, 2009 at 9:34 pm

    Great idea.
i think its really annoying when u r trying to buy an 89 but the other club wants two players as part of the deal.
it is still realistic. i mean, how many real transfers involve player exchanges?
    not very many!

  • 46. Garrett  |  January 23rd, 2009 at 10:28 pm

    This could work.

  • 47. Joe  |  January 24th, 2009 at 11:32 am

    I think it’s an amazing idea…
Money has to have a value so it’s unrealistic the way it is

  • 48. Perry81  |  January 24th, 2009 at 1:53 pm

you sould be able to do [part exchange wiv unmanaged clubs

  • 49. alick  |  January 26th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

a limite on p/e wud be gd but i agree with every one money is worth nothing i think something needs to be done about the chairman vaule coz if some one liek berbatove can sell for 50 which happend and i wasnt happy about it why the hell can i not sell henry for 25 when his vaule is 20 it makes no sence its just luck tbh my idea is if teh chairman expresses he wants to keep some one like kaka then he can put a limit on what he cud sell for at least half of what he is worth every one else should have fredom to sell for what ever any one is biding coz deals atm are so hard to get agreed

  • 50. jack  |  January 30th, 2009 at 11:33 pm

u know free agents why arnt they FREE because they are called FREE AGENTS…

  • 51. aidan k  |  January 31st, 2009 at 9:46 pm

allow more players to be swapped.

  • 52. Ben Spedding  |  February 1st, 2009 at 8:23 pm

y dont they intorudce 2 players for 2 players swap.

eg. torres(brill player) + bojan(future star) for de rossi (proven star) and maxi rodriguez (decent player.)

if i made the bid de rossi plus maxi for torres and thoguht it was unfair on me, the inculsion of bojan evens up the deal.

  • 53. sam  |  March 8th, 2009 at 9:12 pm

what we could do is to part exchange player for a trail and if there good then change them

  • 54. lennox lewis  |  March 28th, 2009 at 1:40 pm

what we need is players that r sold out ov the game only have 2 do half the transfer resign time then a player does when a transfer is done between 2 human managers exspeically in gold tournaments if u get me
