Ideas & Suggested Improvements: International Standard & Custom Game Worlds
June 12th, 2009 by SM Dev (Ste)
For some time the idea has been floated around regarding International Game Worlds, and this is something which we plan to introduce in the near future.
We would create three game world templates along the lines of the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championships, and CONMEBOL Copa América. So we could create the SMFA World Cup, SMFA European Cup, and SMFA South American Cup.
The SMFA World Cup standard template could could include eight groups of four teams, with each team playing each other either once in a round-robin or possibly twice in a double round-robin, with the top two qualifying for the first knock-out stages leading all the way to the final. The thirty-two participating nations could be broken down as follows:
- Europe 14 places;
- Africa 5 places;
- South America 6 places;
- Asia 4 places;
- North and Central America and Caribbean 3 places.
The member who purchased the standard template would have the choice of the first national team before it opened to the public. Alternatively, the member who purchased the SMFA World Cup custom template would choose which nations they wanted to participate themselves from those available on our database (which would add some variation to each tournament), and they would then have the option to make it public or private.
The SMFA European Cup template could follow the same format as the UEFA European Championships, and contain four groups of four teams, proceeded by the quarter-finals through to the final. An alternative is to expand this competition and have eight groups of four teams, with each team playing each other either once in a round-robin or possibly twice in a double round-robin, with the top two qualifying for the first knock-out stages leading all the way to the final.
Like with the SMFA World Cup the member who purchased the standard template would have the choice of the first national team before it opened to the public. Likewise, the member who purchased the SMFA European Cup custom template would choose which European nations they wanted to participate themselves from those available on our database (which would add some variation to each tournament), and they would then have the option to make it public or private.
The SMFA South American Cup template could follow the same format as the CONMEBOL Copa América, and contain three groups of four teams, each team playing each other either once in a round-robin or possibly twice in a double round-robin, with the top two qualifying (along witht the two best third placed teams) for the quarter-finals leading all the way to the final.
With the SMFA South American Cup the template would have 10 pre-set nations in:
Argentina
Bolivia
Brazil
Chile
Colombia
Ecuador
Paraguay
Peru
Uruguay
Venezuela
Like with the SMFA World Cup and SMFA European Cup, the member who purchased the standard template would have the choice of the first national team before it opened to the publicm and the two guest nations would be predetermined. Likewise, the member who purchased the SMFA South American Cup custom template would choose which two guest nations they wanted to participate themselves from those available on our database (which would add some variation to each tournament), and they would then have the option to make it public or private.
There would be questions surrounding how each 23-man squad is decided for each competition, and there are two options which could be feasible.
If it was a standard template then the 23-man squad would be preselected based on the highest rated players for each position (like the scenario in current Gold Championships).
However, if it was a custom template then the SMFA could select a preliminary 23-man squad based on the highest rated players for each position (like the scenario in current Gold Championships), and then the managers would have the option to swap any of these players for another player of a similar position.
This would mean that if a side is not managed it would still have a strong 23-man squad for the tournament, and at the same time gives a managed team the option to pick ‘n’ mix his squad to his/her own liking. Obviously there would be a delay between the creation of the game world, and the tournament actually starting so that you can sort out your squad.
The International Game World would last only for the duration of the tournament before it ends, and the winner would have this honour added to their Trophy Cabinet.
