Ideas & Suggested Improvements: Classic International Game Worlds
January 9th, 2009 by SM Dev (Ste)
For some time the idea has been floated around regarding ‘Classic International Game Worlds’, and this is something which we plan to introduce in the coming months exclusively for Gold Members, and make these game worlds available via the SM Shop.
We would create numerous game world templates along the lines of past FIFA World Cups, and UEFA European Championships. So we could create (for example) the ‘1966 SMFA World Cup ’or the ‘1996 SMFA European Cup’.
The ‘Classic International’ game worlds templates that we create would follow the same format as the real-life tournaments, contain the squads that participated, and the players within those squads would be allocated a rating by our SM Researchers.
For example the 1966 SMFA World Cup template would contain the following national teams in their allocated groups:
Group 1
England;
France;
Mexico;
Uruguay.
Group 2
Argentina;
Spain;
Switzerland
West Germany.
Group 3
Brazil;
Bulgaria;
Hungary;
Portugal.
Group 4
Chile;
Italy;
Korea DPR;
USSR.
If you selected England as your starting nation then you would have players like Gordon Banks, Nobby Stiles, Bobby Charlton et al at your disposal, and the players would be the same age as at the time of the 1966 FIFA World Cup - for example Bobby Moore would be 25-years old.
These new ‘Classic International Game Worlds’ would be available via the SM Shop, and Gold Members would only be allowed to participate in them. The price could be for example £2.99 (although nothing has been set as of yet), and the Gold Member who purchased it would then select the first side within the ‘Classic International Game World’ prior to it opening to the rest of the community (who are Gold Members). The ‘Classic International Game World’ would last only for the duration of the tournament before it ends, and the winner would have this honour added to their ‘Trophy Cabinet’ (which is a future project).

like the idea but not the duration of it i think that you should have those teams to start with but after the tournament the qualification all start again from the groups with 7 teams in and i reckon that the teams now should be done first but in the same format as i suggest

Fun idea but novelty will ware off very fast.
3 quid is nothing but seems to much for 1 virtual tournament. I mean it’s costing SM nothing to make this (i am not inclucding paying programmers ect) i am talking about when that’s out of the way. So why 3 quid?

Will be as interesting as internationals I suppose, with the exception that players ratings won’t EVER change. As the match engine is so poor this will mean the weaker sides I don’t see the point in such a feature as even good management won’t have much effect on the outcomes.
