SM16-v2.07

We are happy to announce that version 2.07 is now available on Soccer Manager 2016 and its coincided with the start of the new seasons in both Major League Soccer and the Chinese Super League.

The Chinese Super League made the footballing world stand up and take notice with their transfer activity this year. When their transfer window closed at the end of February, their total spending broke the £200M barrier and surpassed the £172.65M that Premier League sides spent during January. Their league now boasts the likes of Ramires, Jackson Martínez, Alex Teixeira, Gervinho, Freddy Guarín and Ezequiel Lavezzi. The Chinese Super League is now intriguing and will only continue to grow in stature.

You can argue that the MLS has as many household names as the league boasts the likes of Robbie Keane, Kaká, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, Sebastian Giovinco and Giovani dos Santos. These foreign stars are complimented nicely by American internationals  such as Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley.

The database on Soccer Manager is powered by Soccer Wiki, a community driven database. The new seasons have just started in China and the USA and all of their leagues have been updated to include the most recent transfers. So why don’t you head over to Soccer Manager 2016 and start a new career managing in either China or the USA?

Version 2.07 also contains improvements to the 2D matchday experience as well as the following bug fixes:

  • Can now sort squad by value;
  • Can now progress beyond 31 December 2027;
  • Goalkeepers are now longer automatically picked as an outfield player;
  • Club attendances are now in-line with the data on Soccer Wiki;
  • Players can no longer be sent off twice in the same game;
  • Sound introduced to the game on Steam;
  • Relegation places now show on league tables;
  • Cup games are no longer scheduled before cup draw;
  • More realistic continental competitions.

We will continue to make improvements to the game based on our communities feedback, so please keep your ideas coming and in the coming days we will announce what we’re working on for version 2.08.

The-Leicester-City-Fairytale

Over the past 20 seasons only four different clubs have won the Premier League – Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. These same names are always mentioned at the start of each season when talking about who’s going to win the league.

On the odd occasion we may be treated to a different club mounting a challenge like Liverpool did in 2013/14 or Spurs breaking into the Top 4 in 2009/10 & 2011/12 but bar these blips nothing has really changed over the years.

Thanks to Leicester City, all of this could be about to change.

Roll back 12 months and you’ll find that The Foxes are bottom of the Premier League on just 19 points and 7 points away from safety. They went on to win 7 of their remaining 9 games and survived for another season in the Premier League.

Could you create the same success as Claudio Ranieri?

In the Summer Nigel Pearson, much to the disappointment of the vast majority of fans, was sacked and replaced by Claudio Ranieri. This didn’t seem like an inspired choice and Leicester were the overwhelming favorites to be relegated.

Needless to say that Claudio Ranieri and Leicester City have taken everyone by surprise this season as they currently sit 5 points clear of Spurs with 8 games to go.

They have been labeled as a modern day fairytale.

Ranieri was quoted as saying: ““In an era when money counts for everything, I think we give hope to everybody.”.

This is why a lot of neutrals are rooting for them to win the Premier League in an era where the game is all about multi billionaire owners.

You can argue that Leicester don’t have any household names. The likes of James Vardy and Riyad Mahrez may have grabbed the headlines (the latter wouldn’t look out of place at Bayern or Barcelona) and N’Golo Kanté looks fantastic in midfield (and could very well play at a higher level) but the rest of the squad is made up of journeymen who’d struggle to stake a claim in any of the starting lineups of Europe’s elite.

This is why Leicester have captivated the nation and grabbed the footballing world’s attention. They are only 720 minutes away from sporting immortality and finishing the final chapter in their fairytale.
